Don Vito Leoni, the Godfather, is struggling with clinical depression. As the world evolves around him, he finds himself feeling increasingly out of touch. Though he dreams of retirement, he’s deeply concerned about handing over the “family business” to his two inept sons, whose lack of savvy would likely lead to disaster. In a bold move to go legit, Vito’s decision is met with skepticism and disbelief from his family, who worry that he’s lost his grip on reality.
In an effort to protect their comfortable lives, Vito’s dysfunctional family hatches a scheme to get him some psychological help. They decide to kidnap a therapist, a “piasan” shrink, and compel him to “fix” their father’s mental state. This darkly comedic tale follows the chaotic events that ensue as the family navigates their misguided attempts to restore Vito’s sense of purpose. Premiering on Showtime, this film predates the similarly themed “Analyze This” by more than a year, showcasing a unique blend of humor and drama in a world where family loyalty and personal crises collide.
