In 1947, young writer Stingo relocates to Brooklyn to embark on his debut novel. There, he befriends Sophie, a Holocaust survivor, and her volatile partner, Nathan. As Stingo learns about Sophie’s traumatic past—ranging from her affluent life before the war to her horrific experiences in Auschwitz—he becomes more entangled in their lives.
