Donya, a solitary Afghan refugee and former translator, spends her twenties struggling to find meaning in her life in Fremont, California. Juggling a low-paying job writing fortunes for a fortune cookie factory with weekly therapy sessions, Donya battles insomnia and is weighed down by survivor’s guilt for those she left behind in Kabul. As she navigates this uncertain existence, she yearns for connection and love, but the ghosts of her past and the challenges of starting anew keep her from finding peace.
