When a massive asteroid is on a collision course with Earth, NASA’s top official, Dan Truman, realizes the only way to prevent the catastrophe is to drill into the asteroid’s surface and deploy a nuclear bomb. To accomplish this dangerous mission, Truman recruits Harry Stamper, a legendary oil driller known for his unmatched expertise. However, Harry agrees to join the mission only on the condition that he can bring his handpicked team of skilled drillers, including his headstrong daughter’s boyfriend, A.J., whom Harry has always doubted.
As the mission progresses, the crew faces an array of life-threatening challenges in space, but A.J.’s bravery and quick thinking begin to prove Harry wrong. Along the way, both personal and professional relationships are tested, forcing the team to confront their fears and push beyond their limits in order to save the planet from certain destruction. What started as a mission of necessity turns into a fight for survival, testing the bonds between the crew members and forcing Harry to reconsider his opinions of A.J. when it becomes clear that the success of the mission—and the future of Earth—depends on their teamwork and resolve.
